Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2019 Château Haut-Brion Blanc is radiant and luminous, with a pale straw colour and glints of green and silver that signal both youth and intensity. The nose is astonishingly complex and pure: notes of ripe orchard fruits (pear, quince and apple) mingle with candied lemon peel, white peach and hints of exotic citrus. Layers of white flowers, chamomile, dried herbs, white pepper and a subtle mineral, slate-like edge emerge with air, giving the bouquet a thrilling, ever-evolving character. On the palate, this is both powerful and supremely refined. The texture is rich, almost creamy, yet perfectly counterbalanced by a vibrant, saline acidity that drives the wine across the tongue. Flavours of preserved lemon, juicy stone fruits and ripe citrus are underpinned by a deep, chalky minerality and very subtle oak seasoning. Hints of beeswax, brioche and dried flowers appear on the long, precise finish. While already impressive in its youth, this 2019 is far from its peak and has outstanding aging potential; stored correctly, it can easily evolve and gain further complexity over 15–25 years or more.

Production
Château Haut-Brion Blanc is produced in Pessac-Léognan, in the historic Graves area of Bordeaux, where deep gravel soils mixed with sand and clay rest on well-draining subsoils—ideal for cultivating noble white varieties. The 2019 blend is dominated by Sauvignon Blanc with a nearly equal proportion of Sémillon, sourced from some of the oldest and most meticulously tended parcels of the estate. Yields are kept very low, and harvesting is carried out by hand in multiple passes to ensure that each bunch is picked at optimum ripeness. In the cellar, the grapes are gently pressed, and the juice is fermented in oak barrels, followed by maturation on the lees in French oak (a significant proportion of it new) with careful bâtonnage. This artisanal vinification, combined with rigorous selection, gives Haut-Brion Blanc its signature marriage of richness, tension and extraordinary aromatic complexity.

Food & Serving
This is a gastronomic white wine that shines with refined dishes. It pairs beautifully with lobster, scallops, turbot, sole or John Dory, especially when prepared with beurre blanc, citrus beurre monté or delicate cream sauces. It also excels with roast or truffled chicken, veal in light jus, and fine sushi or sashimi. Mature cheeses such as aged Comté or lightly aged goat’s cheese can also work wonderfully. Serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to allow the aromas to unfold gradually. For youthful bottles, decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended to open up the full range of aromas and textures; older, cellared bottles should be handled more gently and served without extended aeration.

Château Haut-Brion is one of the most storied names in Bordeaux and the only estate from outside the Médoc included in the original 1855 Premier Cru classification. Located in Pessac, just outside the city of Bordeaux, it is widely recognized as the birthplace of the concept of the single-estate Bordeaux wine, with documented acclaim dating back to the 17th century and early praise from English writers and London coffeehouse patrons. The estate was purchased in 1935 by American financier Clarence Dillon, whose family has since invested heavily in vineyard renewal and cutting-edge winemaking, including pioneering the use of stainless steel tanks in the region.
