In the glass, the 2019 Château Bellevue shows an intense, deep ruby colour with youthful purple highlights at the rim. The nose is layered and inviting, opening with refined notes of fine French oak and a delicate hint of coconut, followed by black wild berries, ripe plum and fresh fig. Subtle tones of nougat and cocoa add a plush, gourmand edge, while a mineral undercurrent reflects its limestone origins. On the palate, the wine is concentrated yet beautifully balanced, with a juicy, seamless texture. Fresh red and black cherries mingle with dark berry fruit, plum and a touch of spice, supported by ripe, polished tannins that are already well-integrated. Château Bellevue’s vineyards lie on a prime south to south-west facing slope in Saint-Émilion, surrounded by some of the appellation’s most revered neighbors. The 6.82-hectare estate is planted exclusively to Merlot on clay-limestone and pure limestone soils—terroir famed for delivering wines of elegance, freshness and depth. Yields are kept exceptionally low at around 24 hl/ha, concentrating flavour and structure into every berry. Grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to ensure careful selection of only the finest fruit. Vinification is carried out parcel by parcel, with gentle extraction to preserve purity and finesse, followed by aging in French oak barrels (a portion new) to add complexity, texture and subtle spice without overpowering the natural character of the Merlot and its limestone-driven minerality.
