Description

The 2019 Bruno Colin Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru in magnum format is a powerful yet exquisitely refined expression of one of Burgundy’s most legendary white terroirs. Sourced from the hallowed slopes of Corton-Charlemagne, this Grand Cru marries crystalline minerality with the concentration and depth of the outstanding 2019 vintage. Bottled in magnum for slower, more graceful aging, it is a collector’s format designed for truly special occasions. Corton-Charlemagne is renowned for producing some of the most age-worthy and complex Chardonnay in the world, and Bruno Colin approaches this prestigious site with a Burgundian’s deep respect for terroir. The wine’s hallmark tension between richness and precision, along with its Grand Cru pedigree and magnum presentation, make it a standout in any serious cellar. Rooted in generations of family know-how, this bottling also carries the historical weight of a domaine whose reputation for elegance, finesse, and balance is firmly established across the Côte de Beaune.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2019 Bruno Colin Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru shows a brilliant, pale gold hue with green reflections, hinting at both youth and intensity. The nose opens with layered aromas of lemon zest, white peach, and ripe pear, intertwined with notes of acacia blossom, crushed stones, and a subtle saline edge. As it breathes, more complex nuances emerge: toasted hazelnut, fine pastry, and a whisper of vanilla and smoke from judicious oak aging. On the palate, this Grand Cru is at once powerful and sculpted, with a core of dense, ripe citrus and stone fruits framed by vibrant acidity and a pronounced mineral spine. The texture is expansive and creamy yet never heavy, driven by a precise, almost chiselled structure that carries the flavors long across the finish. Hints of grilled almond, wet chalk, and delicate spice linger, giving the wine impressive length and complexity. In magnum, the 2019 vintage has excellent aging potential: while already compelling with air, it will gain further depth, harmony, and tertiary complexity over the next 10–20 years or more.

Production
Corton-Charlemagne’s steep, west- and south-facing slopes sit on a complex mix of limestone and marl, soils that are ideal for Chardonnay and famed for producing wines of pronounced minerality and tension. The altitude and exposure allow for a long, even ripening, preserving freshness while achieving full phenolic maturity. Bruno Colin’s approach in the vineyard emphasizes careful, often manual work to keep yields low and fruit quality high, with hand-harvesting at optimal ripeness to ensure perfect selection of the Grand Cru grapes. In the cellar, the must is gently pressed and typically fermented in French oak barrels, with a thoughtful balance of new and seasoned wood to add texture and complexity without overwhelming the terroir signature. Extended élevage on fine lees, with occasional bâtonnage as appropriate to the vintage, helps build the wine’s creamy mid-palate and age-worthiness while preserving the bright, limestone-driven backbone characteristic of Corton-Charlemagne.

Food & Serving
This is a gastronomic white Burgundy that shines alongside refined, richly flavored dishes. Think butter-poached lobster, turbot or sole with beurre blanc, scallops with a light citrus or saffron cream, or roasted poultry with truffle and morels. It also pairs beautifully with high-quality, mildly nutty cheeses such as Comté, aged Gruyère, or a delicate Brie. For optimal enjoyment, serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F): cool enough to highlight its freshness, but not so cold that it mutes the complexity. Young bottles will benefit from 45–60 minutes in a decanter to open up the bouquet and integrate the oak; mature magnums can be gently opened and served after a brief aeration in the glass to reveal their full aromatic depth.

Producer
Bruno Colin comes from one of Burgundy’s respected winegrowing families, with roots in Chassagne-Montrachet stretching back several generations. After working alongside his father at Domaine Michel Colin-Deléger, Bruno established his own domaine and quickly forged a distinct style marked by precision, purity, and a finely judged use of oak. His holdings span many of the Côte de Beaune’s most prestigious appellations—Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, and select Grand Cru terroirs like Corton-Charlemagne—giving him access to some of the region’s finest Chardonnay sites. Widely admired for crafting wines that articulate their individual climats with clarity and finesse, Bruno Colin has become a key reference for contemporary white Burgundy, blending deep family tradition with a modern, terroir-focused sensibility.
