Description

The 2019 BOND Vecina is one of Napa Valley’s benchmark single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons, sourced from a dramatic hillside site on the western foothills of Oakville. Crafted in microscopic quantities, it embodies the BOND philosophy of expressing the individual character of great Napa terroirs through meticulous, first‑growth–level attention. In 2019, Vecina delivers a powerful yet refined profile, marrying intensity, structure, and age‑worthy elegance in a truly collectible wine.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2019 Vecina is deeply saturated purple with an opaque core and a narrow, vibrant rim. The nose is layered and complex, opening with blackcurrant, blackberry compote, and plum, followed by graphite, warm slate, cigar box, dark cocoa, and hints of violets, anise, and toasted spices. On the palate, this is a commanding, full‑bodied Cabernet with a firm, architectural tannin structure and impressive concentration. Dense black fruits—cassis, black cherry, and ripe blueberry—are woven with savory notes of crushed rock, cedar, tobacco leaf, espresso, and a touch of dried herbs. The acidity is precise and refreshing, lifting the richness and giving the wine a long, mineral‑streaked finish. Still youthful and tightly coiled, the 2019 Vecina will reward patience: it is built for long aging and should evolve beautifully over 15–25+ years, gaining further complexity, polish, and tertiary nuances with time in the cellar.

Production
Vecina is sourced from a steep, terraced vineyard on the western side of Oakville in Napa Valley, overlooking the valley floor from gravelly, volcanic, and sedimentary soils. This warm, sun‑drenched hillside site, with its excellent drainage and low vigor, naturally produces small berries and low yields, concentrating flavor and structure. The fruit is harvested by hand in multiple passes to ensure optimal ripeness parcel by parcel. In the cellar, the grapes are carefully sorted and fermented in temperature‑controlled vessels, with gentle extraction to capture depth without harshness. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels—predominantly new—for an extended period, allowing the powerful tannins to integrate, the aromatics to deepen, and the distinct voice of the Vecina vineyard to emerge with clarity and precision.

Food & Serving
The 2019 BOND Vecina is best partnered with rich, deeply flavored dishes that can stand up to its intensity and structure. Think dry‑aged ribeye, wagyu or grilled lamb chops, slow‑braised short ribs, or game such as venison with a red wine reduction. It also pairs beautifully with earthy elements like wild mushrooms, truffle accents, and aged hard cheeses such as Comté or Parmigiano‑Reggiano. Serve at 16–18°C (60–65°F) for optimal expression. In its youth, decanting for 2–3 hours is strongly recommended to allow the wine to unfurl its layers; as it matures, a shorter decant of about an hour will be sufficient to awaken its aromatics.

Producer
BOND was founded by Bill Harlan and his team as a grand‑cru‑inspired project dedicated to revealing Napa Valley’s finest single vineyards through 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Rather than blending across appellations, BOND bottles each site separately, treating them as Napa “first growths” to highlight their unique personalities—Vecina among them, alongside labels such as St. Eden, Melbury, Pluribus, and Quella. Based in Oakville and closely linked in philosophy and standards to Harlan Estate, BOND has become one of the region’s most sought‑after and critically acclaimed producers. Its wines regularly receive top scores and are prized by collectors worldwide for their combination of power, precision, and extraordinary longevity.
