Description
The 2018 Gracia Saint-Émilion Grand Cru is a powerful yet polished red from one of Bordeaux’s most esteemed right-bank appellations. Crafted in the excellent 2018 vintage, this wine brings together ripe fruit intensity with the classic structure and finesse that Saint-Émilion is known for. It’s a compelling choice for collectors and enthusiasts looking for a modern, concentrated expression of Bordeaux.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2018 Gracia Saint-Émilion Grand Cru shows a deep, opaque ruby to garnet core with a vivid, youthful rim—an immediate sign of its concentration and vigor. On the nose, it opens with layered aromas of ripe dark berries, black plum and cassis, supported by notes of violet, graphite, cedar, mocha and a gentle touch of sweet spice from élevage in oak.
The palate is full-bodied and richly textured, with velvety tannins framing a core of dark cherry, blackberry and plum. Hints of cocoa, licorice, baking spices and a subtle mineral edge add complexity and length. There is a fine balance between opulent fruit and fresh acidity, keeping the wine lively despite its power. Still youthful, this 2018 has the structure to age gracefully for 10–15 years or more under proper cellaring, developing further complexity and softer, more integrated tannins over time.
Production
Sourced from vineyards in Saint-Émilion on Bordeaux’s right bank, the 2018 Gracia benefits from a terroir of clay and limestone soils that naturally favor Merlot and its blending partners. Low yields and careful, often hand-guided work in the vines help concentrate flavor and ensure optimal fruit selection at harvest. After picking at peak ripeness, the grapes undergo a meticulous vinification with temperature-controlled fermentation to capture aromatic purity and depth. The wine is then matured in French oak barrels to build texture, complexity and age-worthiness, while preserving the character of its origin.
Food & Serving
This Saint-Émilion Grand Cru pairs beautifully with classic dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, braised short ribs, duck breast and hearty game birds. It also complements truffle dishes, wild mushroom risotto, and aged hard cheeses like Comté or mature Gouda. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight both the fruit and the fine-grained structure. If enjoyed in its youth, decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended to allow the aromas to unfurl and the tannins to soften, revealing the wine’s full depth.
Producer
Gracia is a boutique producer in Saint-Émilion, recognized for crafting small-lot, high-intensity wines that reflect both the richness of the right bank and a precise, modern approach to winemaking. Working within one of Bordeaux’s most historic and prestigious appellations, the estate focuses on careful vineyard management and limited production to achieve exceptional concentration and purity of fruit. Over the years, Gracia’s cuvées have gained a loyal following among Bordeaux enthusiasts and critics alike for their depth, elegance and impressive capacity to age.
