Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2018 Pape Clément Blanc shows a pale straw-yellow hue with brilliant highlights, hinting at its freshness and intensity. The nose is exuberant and complex, opening with tropical aromas of warm pineapple, fresh mango and green guava, intertwined with notes of orange blossom, muscat spice, lanolin, crushed stones and a subtle, creamy oak influence. On the palate, this is full-bodied, rich and seductively textured, yet supported by a vibrant spine of acidity and a fine mineral line typical of great Graves. Layers of ripe tropical and stone fruit are wrapped in nuanced spice, subtle toast and floral tones, building into a long, mouthcoating and deliciously persistent finish. The concentration, structure and oak integration suggest excellent aging potential: it will drink beautifully now with a brief aeration, but should evolve gracefully for 8–15 years, gaining further complexity and tertiary nuance.

Production
Château Pape Clément lies in the heart of Pessac-Léognan in Graves, on classic warm gravel soils over clay and limestone that provide ideal drainage and help produce whites of both aromatic intensity and mineral tension. Grapes for the blanc are typically hand-harvested in successive passes to ensure optimal ripeness and meticulous selection in the vineyard and at the chai. The blend in 2018 is 57% Sauvignon Blanc, 39% Sémillon and 4% Muscadelle. Fermentation and élevage take place in French oak barrels, with 16 months of aging in 55% new and 45% second-use barrels, allowing the wine to gain texture, complexity and subtle spice without overwhelming its vibrant fruit and terroir expression.

Food & Serving
This is a gastronomic white Bordeaux, perfectly suited to refined dishes. It pairs beautifully with rich seafood preparations such as lobster, scallops, turbot, sole meunière or butter-poached prawns, as well as roasted chicken, veal in cream sauce, truffle risotto and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to highlight its freshness while allowing the aromatic complexity to unfold. Decanting for 30–60 minutes before serving is recommended, especially in its youth, to fully express the wine’s layered fruit, spice and mineral character.
