Production

Unusually for Pomerol, the estate is planted to roughly 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc, giving Lafleur its unique aromatic profile and structural backbone. The 2018 blend is 54% Cabernet Franc and 46% Merlot, sourced from meticulously tended old vines. All fruit is hand-harvested and rigorously sorted to ensure only pristine berries make it into the vats. Vinification is traditional and deliberately low-intervention: fermentation takes place in small vessels, followed by aging in French oak barrels with a high proportion of new oak to enhance texture, depth and complexity. Every step of the process is guided by an artisanal, almost Burgundian attention to individual parcels and micro-terroirs, resulting in a wine of extraordinary character and precision.
