Tasting Notes
In the glass, Château Clerc Milon 2018 shows a deep, saturated color with a vivid carmine-red rim, signaling both concentration and youth. The nose is generous and expressive, opening with pure blackcurrant and other fresh dark berries, framed by notes of violets. With a little air, more complexity emerges in the form of sweet spice, liquorice and a subtle hint of mint that lifts the richness and adds freshness. On the palate, the wine is dense and opulent at the attack, quickly revealing its fine Pauillac structure. The mid-palate is fresh, supple and beautifully layered, with ripe black fruit wrapped in generous, silk-smooth tannins. Nuances of cracked black pepper, dark chocolate and liquorice unfold as the wine fans out across the palate, leading to a long, harmonious finish where fruit, spice and freshness are perfectly balanced. This is a vintage with serious aging potential: while already seductive in its youth, it will gain in complexity and integration over the next 10–20 years, and potentially longer in ideal cellaring conditions.

Production
Château Clerc Milon lies in the heart of Pauillac in Bordeaux, on classic gravelly soils over limestone and clay that are perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon and its Bordelais companions. The 2018 season was marked by heavy winter rains and hail, followed by a mild spring and a hot, dry summer that advanced the vine cycle and produced small, highly concentrated berries rich in sugar and tannin. Meticulous vineyard work was essential during the humid early summer, but consistent care allowed the estate to maintain excellent fruit quality. Harvest took place parcel by parcel from 17 September to 10 October, beginning with Merlot and finishing with Petit Verdot and Carmenère, ensuring each grape variety was picked at optimal ripeness. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot and 1% Carmenère, traditionally vinified and matured in oak (a significant proportion new) to refine the tannins, deepen the aromatics and give the wine its poised, ageworthy structure.

Food & Serving
This 2018 Clerc Milon is a natural partner for classic, richly flavored dishes: think roast or grilled lamb with herbs, ribeye steak, beef Wellington, venison, or slow-braised short ribs. It also pairs beautifully with game birds, truffled poultry, mushroom-based dishes and aged hard cheeses such as Comté or mature Gouda. Serve at 16–18°C (about 60–64°F); if opened in its youth, decant for 1–2 hours to allow the aromatics to fully unfurl and the tannins to soften. As the wine evolves with age, a gentle decant mainly to remove sediment will be sufficient.
