Description

The 2017 Louis Jadot Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is a benchmark white Burgundy from one of the most storied white-wine terroirs in the Côte de Beaune. Sourced from Jadot’s own historic holding in the heart of the Corton-Charlemagne appellation, this is a powerful yet finely etched expression of Grand Cru Chardonnay. Combining muscular structure with crystalline freshness, it offers serious aging potential for collectors and white Burgundy enthusiasts alike.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Corton-Charlemagne shows a luminous, pale gold hue with youthful green reflections that hint at both its energy and longevity. The nose opens with intense, sculpted aromas of lime zest, orange peel and crushed citrus, layered with white flowers, subtle chalky minerality and a delicate touch of pastry cream and brioche from élevage. On the palate, the wine is broad, rich and textural, with a palpable sense of concentration and depth. Ripe citrus and stone fruits intertwine with notes of toasted hazelnut, vanilla pod and a saline, stony core that anchors the opulence. The 2017 vintage delivers a generous, almost fleshy mid-palate, kept in perfect check by vibrant, mouthwatering acidity. Long and persistent on the finish, it is already impressive in its youth but clearly built to evolve; with proper cellaring, it should develop further complexity over 10–15 years and likely beyond, gaining nuances of honey, dried herbs and more pronounced nutty tones.

Production
Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru lies on the famous Corton hill, shared by the villages of Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses in the northern Côte de Beaune. Here, high-altitude, steep slopes with excellent exposure—ranging from east through south and southwest—sit on a complex mix of limestone and marl that is ideal for Chardonnay, giving both power and a pronounced mineral signature. Louis Jadot’s parcel, part of Domaine des Héritiers Jadot and one of the estate’s oldest vineyards, is situated in the historic core of the appellation, originally the only site entitled to the Corton-Charlemagne name and ideally oriented due south. Grapes are harvested by hand to ensure optimal selection and brought to the winery in small containers to preserve integrity. Traditional Burgundian vinification follows: gentle pressing, fermentation in oak barrels (a proportion new to add structure without overwhelming the fruit), and aging on fine lees to build texture, complexity and longevity, all while preserving the wine’s tension and terroir expression.

Food & Serving
This is a serious gastronomic white, ideal for rich and refined dishes. It pairs beautifully with lobster, scallops and other shellfish—especially when served grilled, roasted or in butter-based sauces—as well as turbot, sole or other noble white fish. It also complements roast chicken with morel or truffle sauce, veal in cream-based preparations and aged, firm cheeses such as Comté or Beaufort. Serve at 11–13°C (52–55°F) to allow the aromatics to unfold gradually; avoid serving it too cold, which can suppress its complexity. Young bottles will benefit from 30–60 minutes in a decanter to open up the bouquet and soften the structure, while older, mature bottles should be handled more gently, with minimal aeration.

Producer
Founded in 1859, Maison Louis Jadot is one of Burgundy’s most respected and widely recognized producers, with deep roots across the Côte d’Or and beyond. Over generations, the house has built an enviable portfolio of village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards, including the historic Corton-Charlemagne parcel owned by Domaine des Héritiers Jadot since the 19th century. Jadot’s philosophy emphasizes expressing the character of each terroir through careful vineyard work and classically minded winemaking, avoiding excess extraction or overt oak. As a benchmark name in the region, Louis Jadot has played a key role in bringing the finesse and complexity of Burgundy to an international audience, with its Corton-Charlemagne consistently regarded as one of the reference bottlings of this legendary Grand Cru hillside.
