Description

The 2015 G & C Lurton Trinite Estate Acaibo is a poised, Bordeaux-inspired red from Sonoma County, crafted by the acclaimed Gonzague and Claire Lurton. This refined blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc and 6% Merlot marries Old World elegance with California energy, offering structure, depth and remarkable finesse. Drawing on the Lurton family’s deep Bordeaux heritage, Acaibo stands out as a classic, almost Burgundian-styled expression of Sonoma terroir with impressive aging potential.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2015 Acaibo shows a medium to deep ruby-purple hue, hinting at both concentration and freshness. The nose opens with lifted notes of cedar and graphite, followed by layers of dark chocolate, dried herbs and subtle new oak spice that frame the fruit rather than dominate it. On the palate, this is a full-bodied yet beautifully balanced wine, with a distinct mineral line running through its core of dark berry and plum fruit. The tannins are firm and pleasantly chewy, giving structure without harshness, while the acidity is seamless and refreshing, keeping the wine lively and precise. The finish is long, layered and composed, with recurring notes of cedar, cocoa, herbs and fine-grained oak. Showing a very classic, almost Burgundian sense of elegance and proportion, the 2015 has the backbone to age gracefully for a decade or more, gaining complexity and softness with time in the cellar.

Production
Trinite Estate lies in Sonoma County, where diverse soils and a relatively cool, maritime-influenced climate echo the conditions of Bordeaux while retaining a distinctly Californian brightness. The vineyards are carefully managed with a focus on low yields and attentive parcel selection to highlight the character of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, then sorted to ensure only the best berries make it into the final blend. Vinification follows a classic Bordelais approach: gentle extraction to preserve finesse and aromatics, followed by maturation in French oak— including a proportion of new barrels— to build structure, polish the tannins and integrate subtle spice without overwhelming the purity of the fruit.

Food & Serving
This refined Bordeaux-style blend is a natural partner for roasted or grilled red meats such as ribeye, lamb racks or beef tenderloin, as well as game dishes and richer poultry like duck. It also pairs beautifully with mushroom-based dishes, truffle risotto, and aged hard cheeses such as Comté or mature Cheddar. Serve at 16–18°C (60–65°F) for optimal expression of aromatics and texture. Decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended, especially while the wine is still relatively young, to allow the tannins to soften and the complex bouquet of cedar, graphite and dark fruit to fully unfold.

Producer
Gonzague and Claire Lurton come from one of Bordeaux’s most respected wine families, with estates including Château Durfort-Vivens, Château Ferrière, Château Haut-Bages Libéral and Château La Gurgue under their stewardship. In 2012, they extended their vision to Sonoma County, seeking to craft Bordeaux-inspired wines from exceptional Californian terroir. By 2014 they had built a dedicated winery and incorporated some original vines on the property, further anchoring Trinite Estate in its new home. Under the guidance of French-born vigneron Nicolas Vonderheyden, the estate produces classically styled, understated wines that emphasize balance, terroir expression and value—firmly establishing G & C Lurton as a serious and thoughtful player in Sonoma’s fine wine landscape.
