Description

From one of Burgundy’s most hallowed slopes, the 2015 Domaine Jacques Prieur Montrachet Grand Cru captures the essence of what many consider the finest dry white wine terroir on earth. Drawn from a tiny 0.59-hectare parcel perfectly sited halfway up the Montrachet hillside, this Chardonnay marries raw power with immaculate precision. The sun-drenched, thin, stony soils and white marl subsoil yield a wine of extraordinary concentration, mineral depth and age‑worthy structure, all amplified by the exceptional 2015 vintage.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2015 Montrachet Grand Cru shows a brilliant, luminous green-gold hue, shot through with glints of silver that hint at its youthful intensity. The nose is initially reserved but already strikingly complex, revealing layers of cool green apple and crisp pear over a core of wet stone, crushed granite and white marl. With air, delicate notes of anise, subtle spice and a suggestion of citrus zest begin to unfurl, giving a sense of tremendous latent power held in check. On the palate, this is dense and opulent yet impeccably balanced. The texture is rich, almost glycerol, with generous, mouth-filling fruit that is immediately framed by a firm, energetic spine of tightly wound acidity. Flavors of ripe orchard fruit, candied lemon peel and subtle baking spice glide over a profound, saline minerality that drives the wine through an almost endless finish. Despite its generosity, the wine feels composed and aristocratic, its power expressed through focus rather than weight. Still at the beginning of its evolution, this 2015 has excellent aging potential; properly cellared, it will continue to develop tertiary notes of hazelnut, brioche, honey and truffle over 15–20 years or more, while gaining even greater complexity and harmony.

Production
Jacques Prieur’s Montrachet Grand Cru comes from a prime 0.59-hectare holding set midway up the storied slope, where exposure to the sun is optimal and drainage is ideal. The soils here are thin and stony with an outcrop of white marl, forcing the Chardonnay vines to drive their roots deep into the bedrock, which lends the wine its hallmark mineral intensity and tension. In 2015, a warm, dry growing season with abundant sunshine, low rainfall and very high temperatures in June and July accelerated the vegetative cycle, bringing early flowering in early June and rapid ripening by early August. Harvest for the domaine’s Chardonnay began as early as 3 September, allowing grapes to be picked by hand at perfect maturity, with excellent concentration and natural balance. In the cellar, the grapes are gently pressed and the must is fermented and aged in French oak, with carefully judged use of new barrels and extended lees aging to build texture and complexity without overshadowing the purity of fruit and the expression of Montrachet’s distinctive terroir.

Food & Serving
This is a grand table wine meant for refined, richly flavored dishes. Classic pairings include poularde with girolles, roasted Bresse chicken with morels, or other delicate poultry in creamy, truffle‑accented sauces, as well as noble fish such as sea bass baked in a salt crust, turbot, or lobster with butter and fine herbs. Its depth and structure also allow it to stand up to luxurious shellfish or veal sweetbreads. Serve at 11–13°C (52–55°F) to capture both aromatic nuance and textural richness. Decanting is strongly recommended for young bottles—30 to 60 minutes in a large, fine white wine glass will help the wine open, releasing its layered aromatics and smoothing the impressive structure.
