Description

The 2015 Château Haut-Brion Blanc is one of Bordeaux’s most sought-after dry white wines, uniting effortless elegance with remarkable depth and longevity. As the white counterpart to one of the world’s great Premier Cru Classé estates, this wine offers a rare combination of intensity, refinement and age-worthiness. Château Haut-Brion is the oldest and historically most storied estate in the Gironde, credited with producing one of the first single-estate Bordeaux wines in the 17th century, long before the concept became standard.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2015 Château Haut-Brion Blanc shows a luminous, pale gold color with green reflections that hint at both youth and vibrancy. The nose is layered and refined, typically opening with citrus tones such as lemon zest and grapefruit, followed by ripe stone fruits, hints of white peach and green mango, and a delicate floral lift—think orange blossom and lime flower. Underneath sit subtle notes of flint, wet stones and a gentle smokiness, a clear signature of its gravelly Pessac-Léognan terroir. On the palate, this vintage combines a satin-like texture with impressive concentration. Expect a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, where bright acidity carries flavors of citrus, pithy grapefruit, and juicy stone fruit, intertwined with nuances of fresh herbs, yuzu-like zest, and savory mineral tones reminiscent of oyster shell and crushed rocks. The finish is long, layered and precise, suggesting excellent aging potential. While already offering great pleasure after a few years in bottle, 2015 Haut-Brion Blanc is built to evolve gracefully over 15–20 years or more, gaining complexity, honeyed notes and richer texture with time.

Production
Château Haut-Brion Blanc is produced in the Pessac-Léognan appellation of Bordeaux, where deep gravel soils mixed with sand and clay overlay a complex subsoil—ideal for crafting tense, mineral-driven whites. The vineyard parcels dedicated to the blanc are planted primarily with Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, which together achieve a balance of aromatic lift, structure and texture. Grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, with strict selection both in the vineyard and at the winery to ensure only pristine fruit is used. Fermentation typically takes place in temperature-controlled vessels, followed by aging in carefully selected oak barrels (a proportion of which are new), where the wine develops its signature depth, creaminess and subtle toast while preserving freshness and terroir expression.

Food & Serving
2015 Château Haut-Brion Blanc is a superb match for refined cuisine: think shellfish such as lobster, crab or langoustines, delicate white fish with beurre blanc, seared scallops, or fine poultry dishes with light cream or truffle accents. It also pairs beautifully with refined vegetable dishes, asparagus, or dishes featuring citrus and fresh herbs. Serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to showcase its aromatic complexity and textural richness. In its youth, decanting for 30–60 minutes can help the wine open up and reveal its full spectrum of aromas; older bottles should be handled gently and may require only a brief, careful decant if at all.

Producer
Château Haut-Brion, located in Pessac-Léognan just outside Bordeaux, is one of the most illustrious and historically significant wine estates in the world. Documented as a celebrated vineyard as early as the 17th century, Haut-Brion’s wines were served in London coffee houses and praised by notable writers long before the official 1855 Classification, in which it was ranked among the very top Premier Crus. In 1935, the estate was purchased by American banker Clarence Dillon, whose family invested heavily in modernizing the chai and vineyards, later acquiring neighboring Château La Mission Haut-Brion. A pioneer in adopting stainless steel tanks in 1960, the estate has long balanced tradition with innovation. Today, Château Haut-Brion is a benchmark for both red and white Bordeaux, renowned for producing wines that are charming and accessible in youth yet capable of extraordinary development in bottle.
