Production
The fruit for Château Latour’s grand vin comes from the estate’s famous Enclos, a walled vineyard surrounding the château in Pauillac, on some of the most prized terroir in the Médoc. Deep gravel soils over a clay and limestone subsoil give exceptional drainage and vigor control, ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon to reach optimal ripeness while retaining freshness and structure. In 2014, the blend is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9.25% Merlot, 0.5% Cabernet Franc, and 0.25% Petit Verdot. Harvesting is carried out parcel by parcel, typically by hand, with meticulous selection in the vineyard and again at the winery. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats, with great attention to extraction to achieve both depth and finesse. The wine is then aged in high-quality French oak barrels (a significant proportion new), where it undergoes a long élevage to refine its tannins, integrate its oak, and build the layered complexity that defines Château Latour. The estate’s decision to release the 2014 only in 2022, after extended maturation in their cellars, reflects their commitment to offering the wine at a more harmonious, drinkable stage, while preserving its long-term cellaring capacity.
