Subtle hints of cocoa, liquorice and graphite add further complexity as it breathes. La Roza 2013 comes from the remote Atauta Valley in eastern Ribera del Duero, where vineyards sit at 850–1000 metres above sea level on predominantly limestone‑rich soils with sandy and clay components. The climate is continental, marked by hot summers, cold winters and strong diurnal temperature swings, which help preserve acidity and build aromatic intensity. The wine is made from 100% Tinto Fino sourced from very old vines, some over 100 years of age, which yield small quantities of highly concentrated grapes. Harvesting is carried out by hand, with careful selection in the vineyard and at the winery. Fermentation takes place in temperature‑controlled vats to protect aromatics and structure, followed by 16 months of maturation in French oak barrels, which adds complexity and texture without overwhelming the purity of the fruit.

This 2013 La Roza is an excellent match for richly flavoured dishes such as roast lamb, slow‑braised beef cheeks, duck confit, or Iberico pork.
