Dark cassis, black cherry and mulberry are joined by savory nuances of leather, forest floor and tapenade, leading into a long, mineral-laced finish. Production
Château Léoville Las Cases is located in Saint-Julien, on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, with its most iconic parcels enclosed by stone walls in the famed “Clos” that borders the Gironde estuary. The terroir is dominated by deep Garonne gravel over clay and sand, providing excellent drainage and encouraging Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen slowly and evenly, while the proximity to the river moderates temperatures and protects against frost. The 2013 vintage required extremely careful work in the vineyards: yields were kept low, and grapes were picked by hand parcel by parcel at optimal ripeness, followed by rigorous sorting to retain only the healthiest fruit. The blend is typically Cabernet Sauvignon-led, supported by Merlot and a smaller proportion of Cabernet Franc (and occasionally Petit Verdot), vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel or wooden vats. After fermentation and maceration tailored to the character of the vintage, the wine was matured in French oak barriques—predominantly new—for around 18–20 months, with careful racking to refine texture and integrate oak without overshadowing the purity of the fruit and the signature minerality of the estate.
