2009 Remelluri Reserva

2009 Remelluri Reserva is a benchmark Rioja from one of the region’s most respected estates, offering a refined expression of mature Spanish red wine. Known for its balance of power, freshness and elegance, it reflects the long-standing tradition of estate-grown winemaking that has helped define modern Rioja.

Tasting Notes
The wine typically shows a deep garnet core with developing ruby tones at the rim, hinting at its maturity. Aromas are layered and inviting, with notes of ripe dark cherry, plum, dried herbs, cedar, tobacco and subtle spice, all unfolding with time in the glass. On the palate, it is structured yet polished, with fine-grained tannins, lively acidity and a savoury, mineral undertone that carries the fruit beautifully. The finish is long and nuanced, showing the hallmark freshness of Rioja Reserva. It is already very approachable, but should continue to evolve gracefully for several more years.

Production
Remelluri’s vineyards are planted in a distinctive Rioja landscape shaped by limestone-rich soils, hillside exposures and a cooler, more Atlantic-influenced climate than many parts of the region. The estate focuses on careful vineyard work and selective harvesting to preserve fruit purity and balance. Winemaking is geared toward transparency and finesse, with ageing in oak used to support rather than dominate the wine’s character.

Food & Serving
This Reserva pairs beautifully with roast lamb, grilled beef, game birds, mushroom dishes and aged Manchego. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking now to help the wine open up and show its full aromatic range.
