Description

The 2008 Champagne Henriot Brut Cuvée Hemera is a luminous expression of one of Champagne’s most celebrated vintages, released only after more than a decade of patient aging. Crafted in equal parts from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir sourced exclusively from six Grand Cru villages, it captures both the tension and precision of 2008 and the elegance for which Henriot is renowned. Named after Hemera, the Greek goddess of day and light, this rare cuvée is a late-released treasure that showcases the house at the height of its craft.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Cuvée Hemera 2008 shows a radiant, pale golden hue with a very fine and persistent bead, a hallmark of long lees aging. The perlage forms a delicate, silky mousse, promising both finesse and energy. The nose is intricate and layered, opening with notes of dried flowers and chalky minerality, followed by roasted hazelnuts, hints of licorice, white pepper, and subtle pastry. As it evolves in the glass, nuances of dried apple, dried pineapple and citrus zest emerge, giving a compelling interplay of maturity and freshness. On the palate, the wine is taut, linear and precise, with a striking backbone of acidity wrapped in a creamy, fine-bubbled texture. Flavors of dried orchard fruit, candied citrus, toasted nuts and spice unfold slowly, carried by a chalk-inflected minerality and a long, vibrant, spicy finish. Already superbly complex, this 2008 still has significant aging potential and will continue to gain depth and nuance over the next 10–15 years, if not longer, for those who appreciate mature prestige cuvées.

Production
Cuvée Hemera 2008 is the essence of six prestigious Grand Cru villages that define the Henriot style. The Pinot Noir is sourced from Verzy, Verzenay and Mailly-Champagne on the Montagne de Reims, where cool exposures and chalky soils give structure, spice and backbone. The Chardonnay comes from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize and Chouilly on the Côte des Blancs, famed for their pure chalk terroirs that deliver tension, finesse and crystalline minerality. Grapes are carefully hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, parcel by parcel, to preserve freshness and precision. Vinification is carried out in small, separate lots to respect the identity of each terroir, followed by meticulous blending to achieve the 50% Chardonnay / 50% Pinot Noir balance. After the secondary fermentation in bottle, the wine rests on its lees for at least 12 years before disgorgement, with a low dosage of 5 g/L to highlight the remarkable quality of the 2008 vintage and the Grand Cru origins.

Food & Serving
This refined Champagne is a superb match for delicately prepared yet flavorful dishes. Think butter-poached lobster, scallops in a light citrus or beurre blanc sauce, turbot with champagne cream, or fine sushi and sashimi where texture and purity are paramount. It also pairs beautifully with aged Comté, Parmesan, or refined poultry dishes such as roast guinea fowl or Bresse chicken with truffle. Serve well-chilled but not icy, ideally at 9–11°C (48–52°F), to allow the aromatics to fully express themselves. Decanting is not essential but gently pouring into a wide-bowled flute or white wine glass and giving it a little time in the glass will help the wine open and reveal its full complexity.

Producer
Founded in 1808, Maison Henriot is one of Champagne’s historic family-owned houses, long admired for its Chardonnay-driven style and its dedication to premium vineyard sourcing. Based in Reims, Henriot has cultivated deep relationships with top growers and Grand Cru sites, especially in the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims. Cuvée Hemera, formerly known as Cuvée des Enchanteleurs, represents the pinnacle of the house’s savoir-faire, produced only in outstanding vintages and always from a selection of Grand Cru villages that embody the Henriot signature of elegance, purity and longevity. Over the years, Henriot has earned a reputation among champagne lovers and critics alike for producing ageworthy wines with fine, chalk-driven minerality and remarkable finesse, and the 2008 Hemera stands as a benchmark in this legacy.
