Description

The 2008 Champagne Gosset Celebris Rosé Brut is a finely sculpted prestige cuvée from one of Champagne’s most classic vintages. Combining the energy of a cool year with Gosset’s signature tension and drive, it offers a deeply nuanced expression of rosé Champagne for serious collectors and pleasure-seekers alike. As Gosset’s top-tier rosé, Celebris is produced only in outstanding years and in strictly limited quantities, making this bottle as rare as it is refined.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2008 Celebris Rosé shows a luminous salmon-pink hue with copper highlights and a very fine, persistent mousse. The nose opens with wild strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant, followed by blood orange, pink grapefruit, and pomegranate, layered with rose petals, almond, brioche, and a touch of chalky minerality and subtle spice. On the palate, this is precise and vertical, with a racy, mouthwatering acidity that’s typical of the 2008 vintage. Flavors of red berries and citrus zest are interwoven with notes of white peach, pastry cream, toasted nuts, and a delicate savory edge. The texture is both creamy and taut, with impressive length and a saline, mineral finish that lingers. Thanks to Gosset’s non-malo style and extended lees aging, this Champagne has considerable aging potential; well-stored bottles should evolve beautifully for at least 10–15 more years, gaining complexity, truffle and dried fruit nuances over time.

Production
Sourced from some of Champagne’s finest crus in the Montagne de Reims, the Côte des Blancs and the Marne Valley, the 2008 Celebris Rosé Brut is typically based on a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with a carefully judged addition of still red Pinot Noir to achieve both color and aromatic depth. The chalk-rich soils and cool climate of these sites deliver natural freshness, intensity and finely etched minerality. All grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and gently pressed to preserve purity. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vessels, and—true to Gosset’s style—malolactic fermentation is deliberately blocked to retain vivid acidity and structure. The wine then undergoes a very long maturation on the lees—often a decade or more—before disgorgement, followed by a low dosage to maintain balance, precision and the hallmark Gosset tension.

Food & Serving
This is a gastronomic rosé Champagne, well-suited to refined dishes rather than just aperitif sipping. It pairs beautifully with tuna or salmon tartare, lobster, langoustines, roasted turbot, or scallops, as well as duck breast, veal, or lightly spiced Asian dishes and high-quality sushi. It also works with aged hard cheeses and delicate berry-based dishes that are not overly sweet. Serve at 8–10°C (46–50°F) in a white-wine or large tulip-shaped Champagne glass to let the aromas fully unfold. Decanting is not essential, but opening the bottle 15–20 minutes before serving—or gently carafing in a narrow decanter—can help this mature cuvée express its complexity.

Producer
Founded in 1584 in Aÿ, Gosset is widely recognized as the oldest wine house in Champagne and one of the region’s great traditionalists. Originally a still-wine producer, Gosset has long championed structured, vinous Champagnes that pair seamlessly with food. The house is known for sourcing from top Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards and for its refusal to induce malolactic fermentation, a stylistic choice that preserves freshness and age-worthiness. The Celebris line represents Gosset’s pinnacle: prestige cuvées made only in the finest vintages, released after extended lees aging. Over the years, Gosset has earned a reputation among sommeliers and collectors for delivering Champagnes of depth, precision and remarkable longevity, firmly securing its place among the most respected names in the region.
