Maison Louis Jadot is one of the great houses of Beaune, a négociant and vineyard owner whose range runs from village Burgundy to the most famous grand crus of the Côte d'Or. This collection brings together Jadot's red and white Burgundy, from Beaune premier cru to Musigny and Montrachet.

Maison Louis Jadot: a Beaune house since 1859

The Jadot family came to Beaune from Belgium in the late 18th century and bought their first vineyard, the Clos des Ursules, in 1826. In 1859 Louis Henry Denis Jadot took over a négociant business in the town and gave it his name. For more than a century and a half the house has combined two roles: buying grapes and wine from growers across Burgundy, and farming its own vineyards, many of them premier and grand cru.

The modern style owes much to Jacques Lardière, who joined in 1970 and shaped the wines for four decades. Frédéric Barnier now leads the winemaking. The house is owned by the Kopf family, the American family behind the importer Kobrand, and is still run from Beaune.

Louis Jadot red Burgundy: Beaune, Gevrey-Chambertin and Musigny

Pinot Noir from Jadot tends to be structured and long-lived, built for the cellar rather than for early charm. The Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules is the family's historic monopole, a walled vineyard inside the premier cru Les Vignes Franches that Jadot alone owns. The 2018 is generous and dark-fruited, with the firm frame that makes it a great keeper. Alongside it, the Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves 2018 is more perfumed and silky.

Further north, Gevrey-Chambertin 2021 brings dark cherry, spice and the earthy depth of the Côte de Nuits in a fresher, lighter vintage. At the very top sits Musigny Grand Cru 2013, one of the rarest wines of Chambolle, fine-grained and floral, now beginning to open up.

Louis Jadot white Burgundy: Santenay to Montrachet

Jadot's whites run from approachable to legendary. Santenay Clos de Malte 2022 comes from another Jadot monopole, a walled vineyard at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune, and shows ripe orchard fruit with a chalky finish. Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru Les Demoiselles 2020 is a benchmark of tension and minerality from one of the most famous parcels of Puligny. The Montrachet Grand Cru 2009 is a mature grand cru from a warm vintage, rich, nutty and long.

Serving Louis Jadot and food pairing

Serve the reds at 15 to 17°C and the whites at 11 to 13°C; grand cru whites show best slightly warmer than everyday Chardonnay. Beaune and Gevrey pair well with roast chicken, duck and beef bourguignon, and Musigny with game birds or a simple fillet of beef. Santenay Clos de Malte suits fish in butter sauce, while Chevalier-Montrachet and Montrachet deserve lobster, turbot or Bresse chicken with morels.

Louis Jadot FAQ

Is Louis Jadot a good Burgundy producer?

Yes. Jadot is one of the most respected négociant houses in Burgundy and owns vineyards in many of the region's top premier and grand crus, including the Clos des Ursules monopole in Beaune.

What is the difference between Maison Louis Jadot and Domaine Louis Jadot?

Maison Louis Jadot is the négociant house that buys grapes and wine as well as making wine from its own land. Wines labelled Domaine Louis Jadot or Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot come from vineyards the family owns.

Does Louis Jadot make Beaujolais?

Yes. Jadot owns Château des Jacques in Moulin-à-Vent. Those wines are sold under the Château des Jacques name rather than as Louis Jadot, so you will find them in our Beaujolais collection.

How long can Louis Jadot wines age?

Village wines are best within five to ten years. Premier cru reds like Clos des Ursules and grand crus such as Musigny or Chevalier-Montrachet can develop for 15 to 25 years in good vintages.

Which Louis Jadot wine should I start with?

Gevrey-Chambertin or Beaune Les Grèves are good introductions to the house style in red, and Santenay Clos de Malte in white.
