Dry, elegant and firmly structured, it combines vibrant red-fruit character with fine tannins and carefully integrated French oak. The Knipser family has been making wine in Laumersheim since 1876 and was among the region’s early pioneers of quality red-wine production.

Tasting Notes
The wine has a clear ruby-red appearance. Its expressive nose opens with aromas of ripe raspberries and strawberries, complemented by subtle spice and the nuanced, polished notes of French oak.

On the palate, it is taut, elegant and beautifully well defined. Fine-grained tannins provide structure without overwhelming the wine, while juicy red fruit carries through to a long, persistent finish. The 2020 vintage is already rewarding with decanting, but its concentration, acidity and tannic framework should allow it to develop further over the next 5–10 years under good cellaring conditions.

Production
The grapes come from the Steinbuckel vineyard in Laumersheim, in the northern Vorderpfalz between Grünstadt and Bad Dürkheim. The site’s limestone-influenced soils are well suited to producing Pinot Noir with freshness, precision and mineral structure. The grapes are fermented on their skins for around 10 days without the use of whole clusters or stems. The wine then matures for 24 months in new French oak barrels, followed by a further two years of bottle ageing before release.

Food & Serving
A versatile partner for roasted duck, guinea fowl, veal, pork tenderloin and dishes featuring earthy mushrooms. It also works beautifully with refined vegetarian cuisine, such as roasted root vegetables or lentils with herbs. Serve slightly cool at around 16–18°C. Decant for 30–60 minutes before serving, particularly when opening a bottle in its youth, to allow the fruit and oak to integrate fully.

Producer
Weingut Knipser has been a family-run estate in Laumersheim since 1876 and today farms approximately 75 hectares across Laumersheim, Großkarlbach and Dirmstein. Heinz Knipser began bottling the estate’s own wines in 1948, an important step in the region’s move towards estate-led quality production. In the mid-1980s, current owners Volker and Werner Knipser introduced barrique ageing, expanded the focus on red wines and planted both classic regional and international varieties. The estate is particularly recognised for its ambitious, age-worthy red wines and its role in establishing the Vorderpfalz as a source of serious German Pinot Noir.
