Made from Nerello Mascalese, it reflects the growing attention paid to the mountain’s individual vineyard sites and their distinct expressions.

Tasting Notes
The wine is typically bright ruby to garnet in colour, with aromas of red cherry and wild berries alongside hints of dried herbs, spice and stony earth. On the palate, expect lively acidity, fine-grained tannins and a savoury, mineral finish. Its structure and freshness should reward careful cellaring for several years, though the precise ageing window depends on storage conditions and personal taste.

Production
Contrada Pianodario lies on Etna, where elevation and volcanic soils help give Nerello Mascalese its characteristic freshness and savoury edge. The wine is made from the variety, but harvest, fermentation and maturation details for the 2020 vintage are not available here.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C, allowing the wine to open in the glass; a short decant can help reveal its aromas, particularly if it is still youthful. Pair it with roast lamb, grilled mushrooms, tomato-based dishes or aged cheeses.

Producer
Tascante is the Etna project of Tasca d’Almerita, a historic Sicilian wine estate whose family winemaking roots date to the 19th century. The project focuses on the mountain’s distinct contrade, helping bring attention to the diversity of Etna’s vineyards and the character of Nerello Mascalese.
