First produced in 1966, it is Ridge’s longest continuously produced Zinfandel-based wine and a benchmark expression of Alexander Valley.

Tasting Notes
The wine has a deep, vibrant colour and opens with aromas of ripe blackberry, dark cherry and plum, followed by notes of pepper, liquorice, dried herbs and subtle vanilla. On the palate, it is full-bodied and concentrated yet remarkably fresh, with juicy dark fruit, fine-grained tannins and lively acidity providing balance. The finish is long, spicy and distinctly Californian without feeling heavy.

Geyserville 2023 is already highly approachable, but its combination of old-vine concentration, acidity and tannic structure should allow it to develop added complexity over the next decade or more.

Production
The grapes come from three adjoining parcels on the western edge of Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley, planted in gravelly loam deposited by an ancient channel of the Russian River. The oldest vines are more than 125 years old, while around 60% of the vineyard is at least 50 years old. This traditional field blend comprises 70% Zinfandel, 18% Carignane, 9% Petite Sirah and 3% Alicante Bouschet. The grapes were hand-harvested, destemmed and crushed, with both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation taking place naturally. The wine matured for 16 months in air-dried American oak barrels, only 15% of which were new.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Geyserville is a natural match for grilled or slow-roasted beef, barbecued ribs, lamb, sausages and richly seasoned mushroom dishes. Its dark fruit and spicy character also work beautifully with smoked meats and hard, mature cheeses. The wine can be enjoyed immediately, although decanting for 30–60 minutes will help open its aromas and soften the youthful structure.

Producer
Founded in 1959, Ridge Vineyards is one of California’s most respected wineries, best known for its historic Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon and its expressive old-vine Zinfandel wines.
