It combines the powerful, structured character typical of the commune with the elegance and aromatic complexity of the Parafada cru—an esteemed site recognised on Renato Ratti’s historic Barolo map as a first-class subzone. Built for the cellar, this is a Barolo whose depth and tannic backbone will reward extended ageing.

Tasting Notes
Deep garnet in colour, the wine opens with expressive aromas of ripe red berries, dried rose petals and dark spices, complemented by mineral nuances and the earthy complexity associated with mature Nebbiolo. On the palate, it is robust and commanding, with concentrated fruit, firm tannins and a pronounced mineral character. The finish is long, savoury and persistent, with layers of spice and dried floral notes emerging as the wine develops. Its substantial structure and acidity give it excellent ageing potential, with the capacity to evolve beautifully over many years in bottle.

Production
The grapes come from the Parafada vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba, situated between the Lazzarito and Gabutti crus. More than 50-year-old vines are planted on a favourable south-facing slope at approximately 330 metres above sea level, with calcareous marl and sandy soils that contribute both intensity and mineral definition. The Nebbiolo grapes are harvested by hand in the second half of October, followed by controlled-temperature fermentation and extended skin maceration. The wine matures for around 30 months in large oak casks before spending at least a further year resting in cool, dark cellars to harmonise its structure and aromas.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for rich, full-flavoured dishes such as braised beef, osso buco, wild boar ragù, truffle pasta and roasted game. It also pairs wonderfully with mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 18°C, allowing the bottle to come up gradually to temperature. Decanting for one to two hours is recommended when enjoying the wine young, both to soften its youthful tannins and to reveal its aromatic complexity.

Producer
Founded in 1896, Massolino is one of the historic family wineries of Serralunga d’Alba and an important reference point in the Barolo region.
