It combines the classic structure of the appellation with remarkable mineral precision, a persistent saline character and silky tannins. The Massolino family has been a leading force in Serralunga since founding its winery in 1896, and has dedicated itself to Barolo Margheria since 1985.

Tasting Notes
Bright garnet in colour, with the subtle brick-red evolution typical of Nebbiolo. The nose is elegant and layered, revealing wild cherries and candied orange peel alongside delicate notes of spice, tobacco and dried herbs.

On the palate, the wine is harmonious and medium-bodied, with pronounced mineral definition and a lingering saline edge. Silky tannins provide structure without heaviness, while the restrained intensity and balanced acidity give the wine excellent length. As a Barolo from a distinguished site, it has strong ageing potential and should develop further complexity over the next decade or more when properly stored.

Production
The grapes come from the 1.5-hectare Margheria cru in Serralunga d’Alba, situated at approximately 340 metres above sea level with a favourable south-facing exposure. The Nebbiolo vines are trained using the Guyot system and rooted in calcareous soils with a notable sandy component, which helps shape the wine’s polished structure and saline, mineral character. Low yields encourage concentrated fruit, while the grapes are harvested by hand in the second half of October. Fermentation and extended skin maceration take place at controlled temperatures in large oak vats, followed by prolonged ageing in large Slavonian oak casks and further bottle maturation before release.

Food & Serving
Its firm yet polished structure makes this Barolo an excellent match for braised and roasted red meats, game stews, truffle dishes and richly flavoured preparations featuring mushrooms. It is also well suited to mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 18°C, allowing the bottle to come gradually to temperature. Decant for approximately one hour before serving to open the wine’s aromatic profile and soften its youthful structure.

Producer
Founded in 1896, Massolino is one of the historic estates of Serralunga d’Alba and an important ambassador for the character of the area’s Barolo wines. The winery is especially recognised for expressing the individuality of its prized vineyard sites, including Margheria, which it has focused on exclusively since 1985. Under the guidance of oenologists Franco and Roberto Massolino, grapes from this distinctive 1.5-hectare vineyard are transformed into a Barolo noted for its rare mineral elegance and enduring capacity for development.
