Sourced from the stony Bottelary Hills of Stellenbosch, it combines generous ripe fruit with mineral freshness and understated oak. The wine reflects Kaapzicht’s long-standing connection with Chenin Blanc, a variety with deep roots in the Cape’s winemaking history.

Tasting Notes
The wine is bright and golden in appearance, with a smooth, concentrated texture. Its expressive nose offers ripe yellow fruit, white peach and honeyed pineapple, complemented by creamy nuances and a subtle lees-like character. On the palate, it is full-bodied and layered, with impressive fruit weight, gentle oak influence and a fresh acidity that brings precision and balance. Mineral tones from the granite soils add structure to the generous fruit, while the finish is long, focused and refined.

Although delicious in its youth, the wine’s concentration, acidity and structure should allow it to develop further in bottle over the medium term. With age, the fruit may become more complex, revealing additional honeyed, nutty and savoury nuances.

Production
The grapes come from a registered old-vine Chenin Blanc vineyard planted in 1982, rooted in the iron-rich, granite soils of the Bottelary Hills. The vines are hand-harvested before being destemmed and crushed, followed by a short period of skin contact in the press. Gentle pressing is followed by natural overnight settling. The clarified must is transferred to 400- and 500-litre barrels, where it undergoes spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts over approximately two to four weeks. The wine then matures in barrel for 10 months before bottling, with the oak used to enhance texture and complexity rather than dominate the wine.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at around 10–12°C. Its richness and freshness make it an excellent match for roast chicken, pork, creamy fish dishes, grilled shellfish and richer vegetarian plates featuring squash or mushrooms. It also pairs well with mildly spiced Asian cuisine and mature, creamy cheeses. Decanting is not essential, but 20–30 minutes in a decanter can help open the wine and reveal its layered aromas.

Producer
Kaapzicht Estate is a family-owned winery in the Bottelary Hills north of Stellenbosch and has been part of the Steytler family since 1946. Today, Danie Steytler and his son, Danie Steytler Jr., continue the family’s focus on expressive wines shaped by the estate’s distinctive terroir. The name Kaapzicht means “view of the Cape”, referring to the property’s elevated position overlooking Cape Town and Table Mountain. The estate is especially renowned for its old Chenin Blanc vineyards—including a celebrated block planted in 1947—as well as Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux-inspired blends, many of which have received international recognition.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0874/0614/9969/files/Hvidvin-sydafrika-stellenbosch-kliprug-chenin-blanc-2024-kaapzicht-135-75cl-vinogvelsmag-1.png?v=1788255228
