Becker’s 2018 Wallufer Oberberg Kabinett shows how compelling Riesling can be when gentle sweetness is balanced by lively acidity. Hajo Becker was an early advocate of bone-dry Riesling in the 1970s, but this wine highlights his skill with the grape’s sweeter, finely balanced side.

Tasting Notes
Pale in appearance, it opens with aromas of apple and yellow-green stone fruit. The palate is juicy and crisp, with a lively interplay of residual sweetness and acidity; delicate spice and elegant mineral notes keep the wine slender rather than overtly sweet.

Production
Made from Riesling in the Rheingau, this Kabinett comes from the Wallufer Oberberg vineyard. The available information does not specify the harvest method or vinification process. Its fresh acidity gives it the structure to develop further, though it can also be enjoyed now.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled, around 8–10°C. Its balance of sweetness and acidity pairs well with mildly spicy Asian dishes, pork, or rich, salty cheeses. Decanting is not necessary; open shortly before serving.

Producer
J.B. Becker is based in the Rheingau and is associated with Hajo Becker, an early proponent of bone-dry Riesling in the 1970s. This bottle also reflects the producer’s command of the grape’s sweeter style, balancing residual sugar with freshness and precision.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0874/0614/9969/files/jbbecker-riesling-wallufer-oberberg-kabinett-halbtrocken-2018-0.jpg?v=1791750250
