Named for a figure from Etruscan mythology, it reflects Bolgheri’s celebrated affinity for Bordeaux varieties and offers a generous expression of the region’s Mediterranean character.

Tasting Notes
Expect a deep, concentrated red colour, with aromas of dark berries and morello cherry layered with liquorice, sweet tobacco, spice and a hint of menthol over gentle vanilla notes. The palate is full and enveloping, balanced by fresh acidity and soft tannins, with a harmonious, lingering finish.

Its concentration and structure should allow it to develop gracefully in the bottle, though no specific drinking window is provided.

Production
The vineyards lie near Castagneto Carducci, among the slopes of the Segalari hills, in a mild, dry and airy Mediterranean climate shaped by cooling sea breezes and summer temperature shifts. Deep, well-drained alluvial soils combine sand and clay with pebbles, limestone and volcanic rock. Guado al Melo vinifies each micro-parcel separately; after gentle destemming and crushing, fermentation takes place with around two weeks of maceration and regular manual pump-overs. The wine then spends approximately 24 months in used barrels, resting on fine lees with weekly bâtonnage, before natural clarification by racking, further maturation in stainless steel and extended bottle ageing. It is bottled unfiltered.

Food & Serving
Serve with rich, savoury dishes such as grilled or slow-roasted red meats, game, or aged hard cheeses. A serving temperature of 16–18°C will help show both its fruit and freshness. Decant for about an hour before serving, particularly while young, to let the aromas open.

Producer
Guado al Melo is based in Castagneto Carducci, in the heart of the Bolgheri area, where its wines draw on the region’s coastal climate and varied soils. Atis takes its name from an ancient mythological king and its label features a grafted vine, an old cultivation practice presented as a symbol of enduring connection. The producer’s Atis 2021 received notable recognition from Italian wine guides, including three red glasses from Gambero Rosso; those accolades refer to the 2021 vintage, not this 2022 release.
