Known as the “King of Wines,” Barolo has long held a prestigious place in Italian wine history, and Borgogno’s traditional approach captures the grandeur and longevity for which the appellation is celebrated.

Tasting Notes
Deep and elegant in appearance, this Riserva opens with an intricate bouquet of maritime notes, tar, cocoa bean and cypress, complemented by rose petal and balsamic nuances. On the palate, it is poised and beautifully layered, with a supple, velvety texture and rounded, silky tannins. The finish is persistent, bringing together Nebbiolo’s savoury depth and aromatic complexity.

This is a wine with considerable ageing potential and the structure to develop further bottle complexity over time. It is already approachable with decanting, but will reward careful cellaring for many years.

Production
The grapes come from historic Borgogno parcels in Cannubi, Fossati and Liste, in the Barolo commune. Their calcareous-clay soils and south to south-eastern exposures encourage even ripening while helping to moderate the effects of fog and frost. The vines are trained using the arched Guyot system. Fermentation takes place under temperature control at approximately 22–30°C for around two weeks, with manual punch-downs and pump-overs, followed by an extended 30-day maceration with the cap submerged. The wine then matures for six years in large Slavonian oak casks before spending a further twelve months resting in bottle.

Food & Serving
Its depth and polished tannins make it an excellent match for red meat, game and richly flavoured pork dishes. It also pairs beautifully with mature hard cheeses and other savoury, slow-cooked preparations. Serve at approximately 18°C. Decant for around one hour before serving to open the wine’s aromatic layers and soften its youthful structure.

Producer
Founded in 1761, Giacomo Borgogno e Figli is one of Barolo’s historic estates and is renowned for preserving traditional winemaking practices.
