Made from Pinot Noir and shaped by the Clair family’s long-standing expertise in Santenay, it offers an appealing balance of richness, freshness and understated elegance.

Tasting Notes
The wine presents a deep ruby-red colour. On the nose, it shows inviting aromas of black fruits, complemented by subtle vanilla notes from barrel ageing. The palate is full-bodied and smooth, with ripe fruit, supple structure and silky tannins leading to a balanced finish.

Although approachable in its youth thanks to its rounded texture, the 2024 vintage should develop additional savoury and earthy complexity with bottle age. It can be enjoyed over the next several years, with careful cellaring rewarding those who prefer a more mature Burgundy profile.

Production
The wine comes from Santenay in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, where Pinot Noir benefits from the region’s classic limestone and clay soils. The grapes are carefully sorted and 100% destemmed before being placed in concrete tanks below 10°C for approximately one week of cold maceration. As fermentation begins, colour and fruit are extracted through regular pumping over. After around three weeks, the wine is transferred to oak barrels, approximately 15% of which are new, for 12 months. It is then blended in stainless-steel tanks and bottled after a total élevage of around 18 months, following light filtration.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 14–16°C to highlight the wine’s fruit and finesse. It pairs particularly well with roast poultry, duck, veal, pork tenderloin, mushroom dishes and Burgundy classics such as coq au vin. Decanting is not essential for a young bottle, but 30–60 minutes in a carafe can help the wine open up, especially when served soon after opening.

Producer
François and Denis Clair founded Domaine Clair in 1986 after settling in Santenay with just five hectares of vineyards, initially focusing mainly on red wines from the appellation. Through inheritance and carefully chosen acquisitions, the domaine has grown to 14 hectares planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Their son Jean-Baptiste joined the estate in 2000 and helped advance both the vineyard work and winemaking. Today, many of the domaine’s wines mature in oak in the estate’s old vaulted cellars in Saint-Aubin, reflecting the family’s close connection to the southern Côte de Beaune.

https://bottlehero.com/products/francois-et-denis-clair-francoise-et-denis-clair-santenay-clos-des-mouches-2024
