It combines vibrant red-fruit character and floral notes with a powerful palate shaped by fine, well-integrated tannins. The Clair family has been producing wine in Santenay since 1986, building a reputation for precise, terroir-driven Côte de Beaune wines.

Tasting Notes
The wine presents a bright ruby-red colour. On the nose, aromas of red berries and cherries are complemented by elegant floral nuances reminiscent of violets, creating a lifted and inviting profile.

On the palate, it is full-bodied and energetic, with concentrated fruit, refined tannins and a balanced finish. The oak ageing adds subtle structure rather than dominating the wine. With its combination of fruit, freshness and tannic backbone, the 2024 vintage should drink well in its youth while gaining additional complexity over the next several years.

Production
The grapes come from Santenay in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, where the region’s classic limestone- and clay-influenced soils provide both structure and freshness. The fruit is carefully sorted and 100% destemmed before being placed in concrete tanks below 10°C for approximately one week of cold maceration. Alcoholic fermentation begins as the temperature rises, with colour and flavour extracted through regular remontage. After around three weeks, the wine is transferred to oak barrels, 15% of which are new, for 12 months. It is then blended in stainless-steel tanks and bottled after a total of approximately 18 months, following light filtration.

Food & Serving
Serve slightly cool, at around 14–16°C. This Santenay is a natural match for roast chicken, duck, veal, pork tenderloin, mushroom dishes and Burgundy classics such as coq au vin. It can be enjoyed without decanting, but a short decant of 30–45 minutes will help open its floral aromas and soften the youthful tannins, particularly when served soon after release.

Producer
Domaine Clair was founded in 1986 in Santenay by Françoise and Denis Clair, initially with just five hectares focused mainly on red wines from the appellation. Through inheritance and carefully chosen acquisitions, the domaine has grown to 14 hectares planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Their son Jean-Baptiste joined the estate in 2000, bringing further improvements to vineyard management and vinification. Today, the domaine’s wines are largely matured in barrel in the family’s historic vaulted cellars in Saint-Aubin, reflecting a thoughtful balance between traditional Burgundy methods and modern precision.

https://bottlehero.com/products/francois-et-denis-clair-francoise-et-denis-clair-santenay-clos-de-la-comme-2024
