Named after the two hilltop estates that resemble the “eyes” watching over the medieval village of Pereta, it combines lively Mediterranean character with elegant balance and a distinctive spicy finish.

Tasting Notes
Bright and delicate in appearance, the wine opens with floral and lightly spicy aromas, followed by fresh notes of green apple, mint, lime and lemon. On the palate, it is crisp, elegant and well balanced, with refreshing acidity and a persistent finish marked by ripe mango and white pepper.

Poggio Argentato is at its most expressive when enjoyed young, when its citrus freshness and aromatic lift are at their most vibrant. It can develop added roundness over the short term, but is best appreciated within a few years of the vintage.

Production
The grapes are gently pressed, followed by a three-hour cold skin maceration at 16°C in stainless-steel tanks before pressing. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel, while spontaneous malolactic fermentation is carried out on one-third of the wine. The wine is then matured for five months in steel tanks, with the Petit Manseng component fermented and aged separately in new 500-litre barrels. The estate’s vineyards are spread across the varied, sunlit landscapes of Maremma, contributing freshness, aromatic complexity and a distinctly Tuscan Mediterranean character.

Food & Serving
An excellent aperitif, Poggio Argentato pairs particularly well with shellfish, raw fish, seafood salads, delicate white meat and fresh cheeses. Its citrus-driven freshness also makes it a natural match for plant-based starters, especially dishes featuring herbs, green vegetables or lightly spiced elements. Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C. Decanting is not necessary; simply open shortly before serving or pour into a white-wine glass to allow its aromas to emerge.

Producer
Founded in Maremma, Fattoria Le Pupille is one of the region’s pioneering estates and has played an important role in raising its profile internationally. Elisabetta Geppetti transformed the family property into a modern, forward-looking winery, now encompassing approximately 75 hectares of vineyards across a mosaic of Maremma sites. While Sangiovese remains central to the estate and accounts for much of its vineyard area, the winery is also celebrated for its ambitious wines, including the first vintage of Saffredi, released in 1987 and widely regarded as a landmark for the region.
