Created from the Le Pievi vineyard, it combines the region’s celebrated Bordeaux influence with distinctly Italian freshness, offering an elegant and approachable expression of this coastal appellation.

Tasting Notes
The wine has a clear ruby-red colour. Its expressive nose opens with floral notes of rose and dried violet, followed by aromas of blackberry, cherry, fern and woodland undergrowth. Subtle hints of liquorice and dark spice add depth and complexity.

On the palate, Pievi is smooth and rounded, with a soft, generous texture balanced by refreshing acidity. Its tannins are even and well integrated, giving the wine structure without sacrificing suppleness. It is enjoyable in its youth, while its balance and concentration should allow it to develop additional savoury and earthy nuances over the next few years when properly stored.

Production
The grapes come from the Le Pievi vineyard in Castagneto Carducci, at around 50 metres above sea level, with a favourable south-western exposure. The approximately 20-year-old vines grow in sandy-clay sedimentary soils that encourage both ripeness and finesse. Each variety is harvested at optimal maturity and fermented separately for around two weeks in cement vats using indigenous yeasts, with manual submersion of the cap. Following spontaneous malolactic fermentation, the blend is assembled within the year and matured for 12 months in unlined cement tanks, preserving the wine’s freshness and aromatic precision. After filtration, it rests for a further six months before release.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly cool, at approximately 16–18°C. Its supple fruit, freshness and balanced tannins make it a versatile partner for Tuscan dishes, grilled or roasted meats, herb-seasoned lamb, mushroom pasta, tomato-based recipes and medium-aged cheeses. Decanting is not essential for this approachable vintage, but a short decant of 20–30 minutes can help reveal its floral and savoury aromas, particularly when enjoyed young.

Producer
Fabio Motta created Pievi Bolgheri Rosso in 2009 in Castagneto Carducci, at the heart of the Bolgheri region. The wine reflects the estate’s artisanal approach, with careful manual attention in the cellar, spontaneous fermentation and maturation in cement rather than heavily flavoured oak. Produced from the prestigious Le Pievi vineyard, it expresses the area’s distinctive maritime terroir while showcasing Fabio Motta’s focus on purity, balance and territorial character.
