Guigal’s Côte Rôtie Brune & Blonde de Guigal 2022 is a classic expression of the northern Rhône, combining the power of Syrah with the elegance and aromatic lift associated with Côte Rôtie. Named after the appellation’s famous Brune and Blonde slopes, it reflects Guigal’s longstanding commitment to one of France’s most historic and distinctive wine regions.

Tasting Notes
The wine has a deep ruby-red colour. Its nose is expressive and refined, revealing aromas of red berries, ripe blackberry, warm spices and subtle, well-integrated oak, with a delicate hint of vanilla. On the palate, rounded tannins support layers of raspberry, blackberry and spice, while a balanced acidity brings freshness and definition. The long, graceful finish shows the harmony between fruit, oak and tannin.

This is an approachable vintage with the structure to develop further in bottle. It can be enjoyed now after decanting, but should gain additional complexity over the next 8–15 years, with careful cellaring allowing the fruit, spice and oak to meld further.

Production
Produced in Côte Rôtie in the northern Rhône, the wine reflects the appellation’s steep, rocky vineyards and warm, sun-exposed slopes. Guigal’s Côte Rôtie is traditionally based on Syrah, complemented by a small proportion of Viognier, which contributes aromatic complexity. The grapes undergo regular immersion of the skins and pulp in the juice during fermentation in temperature-controlled, closed stainless-steel tanks for almost three weeks. The wine is then matured for at least 36 months in oak barrels, around 50% of which are new, giving the finished wine depth while preserving its Rhône character.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for game and richly flavoured red meats, this Côte Rôtie also works beautifully with roast lamb, venison, beef dishes and mature, hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for 1–2 hours before serving, particularly when enjoying the wine in its youth, to soften the tannins and allow its berry, spice and oak aromas to open.

Producer
Founded by Étienne Guigal in 1946 in the heart of Côte Rôtie, Maison Guigal has grown into one of the Rhône Valley’s most respected producers. Now led by the third generation of the family, the estate combines traditional Rhône winemaking with a strong focus on precision and long-term maturation. Guigal expanded its expertise in 2003 by establishing its own cooperage at the historic Château d’Ampuis, and its 2017 acquisition of Château de Nalys in Châteauneuf-du-Pape strengthened the domaine’s presence in the southern Rhône. The house is particularly renowned for its Côte Rôtie wines and its influential role in elevating the reputation of the northern Rhône on the international stage.

E.
