Saint-Péray has been recognised as a cru since 1936, and its distinctive granite-influenced vineyards give the wines a character that balances ripe fruit with mineral depth.

Tasting Notes
The tasting note supplied is for the 2021 vintage, so it should be treated as an indication of the cuvée’s style rather than a confirmed note for 2023. It describes aromas of ripe Williams pear, white flowers and herbs, with a deeper mineral, gently savoury edge. The palate is clear, juicy and concentrated, with a full body and a fine, rounded texture.

Production
Saint-Péray lies west of Valence, where clay-rich granite soils shape the appellation’s white wines. The supplied information describes vines around 20 years old, farmed organically by François Villard without certification. For the 2021 vintage, the blend was 65% Marsanne and 35% Roussanne and matured for 13 months in oak barrels on its lees; production details for the 2023 vintage have not been provided.

Food & Serving
Try it with roast chicken, grilled white fish, creamy vegetable dishes or a soft-rind cheese. Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C, to let the wine’s fruit and mineral character show. A brief period in a decanter can help open the wine, especially if it seems reserved on first pouring.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0874/0614/9969/files/domaine-francois-villard-saint-peray-version-2023-0.jpg?v=1791674963
