Originally created for the American market, its remarkable freshness and expressive character have made it highly sought-after in Europe as well. The cuvée reflects Domaine de la Janasse’s rise from a small family estate to one of the leading names in the Southern Rhône.

Tasting Notes
The 2024 vintage presents a deep ruby-red colour with youthful purple reflections. On the nose, it offers fragrant aromas of ripe red and dark berries, violets, garrigue herbs and gentle spices, with the perfume and lifted character typically associated with old-vine Grenache.

On the palate, the wine is generous and concentrated yet notably fresh, combining supple tannins with flavours of raspberry, blackberry, plum, liquorice and Mediterranean herbs. Oak contributes depth and subtle spice without overwhelming the fruit. It can be enjoyed after a short period of bottle rest, but should develop added complexity over approximately 8–15 years in a good cellar.

Production
The grapes come from the Chaupin vineyard, one of Domaine de la Janasse’s special parcels in the fragmented Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. The cuvée is made from 100% Grenache and follows a traditional vinification, including a 22-day maceration on the skins. It is matured with 30% in new oak barrels and 70% in large oak foudres, then bottled unfiltered to preserve its natural texture, aroma and character.

Food & Serving
Its combination of ripe fruit, freshness and savoury Mediterranean notes makes it an excellent match for roast lamb, beef, venison and richly flavoured poultry. It also pairs beautifully with Provençal dishes, grilled meats, ratatouille and mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C. Decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended when drinking the wine young, while older bottles should be handled carefully and decanted only briefly if needed to remove sediment.

Producer
Domaine de la Janasse was established by Aimé Sabon in 1967, when he took over the family’s vineyards in Courthézon and chose to produce wine under his own estate rather than continue supplying grapes to a cooperative. From its original 15 hectares, the domaine has grown to around 90 hectares spread across more than 60 parcels, creating a rich mosaic of Rhône terroirs. Christophe Sabon joined his father in 1991, followed by Isabelle in 2001, and together the family has developed Domaine de la Janasse into one of the most respected estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, known for distinctive cuvées such as Chaupin, Les Garrigues, Terre d’Argile and Terre de Bussières.
