Rich black fruit, floral nuances and carefully managed oak combine in a cuvée that balances power with a long, silky finish. The Domaine de la Janasse estate has helped establish the Sabon family as one of the leading names in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Tasting Notes
Deep and richly coloured in the glass, this 2024 Châteauneuf-du-Pape opens with expressive aromas of blackberries and blackcurrants, complemented by elegant violet notes. The palate is full and textured, with concentrated dark-fruit flavours supported by a firm yet refined structure. Its long, silky finish brings a subtle edge and freshness that keep the wine balanced rather than heavy.

As a young vintage, it will benefit from time in bottle as its fruit, floral character and oak integration develop further. It can be enjoyed now with decanting, but should have the structure to evolve gracefully over the medium to long term.

Production
The grapes are harvested by hand, with careful selection carried out in the vineyard to ensure only healthy, ripe fruit reaches the cellar. Approximately 80% of the fruit is destemmed before undergoing a 21- to 28-day maceration, during which the must is manually punched down each day to encourage gentle extraction. The wine is then matured for 12 months, with 80% aged in larger oak vessels and 20% in barriques, one third of which are new. This combination preserves the wine’s generous fruit while adding texture and complexity.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for hearty dishes such as rosemary-roasted lamb, beef short ribs, venison or slow-cooked stews. It also works well with grilled meats, mushroom-based dishes and mature hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for 1–2 hours when drinking young to open up the aromas and soften the structure; older bottles should be decanted carefully, if at all, to remove any sediment.

Producer
Domaine de la Janasse is a respected family-run estate in Courthézon, in the heart of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
