Its combination of bright fruit, floral lift, Mediterranean character and pronounced mineral freshness captures the distinctive personality of Etna Rosso DOC. Crafted from vineyards at high altitude, it offers both immediate drinkability and refined structural depth.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a vibrant ruby-red colour, with an aromatic nose of red berries, delicate floral notes and hints of Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it is fresh and well balanced, combining juicy fruit with pronounced mineral character, fine structure and a long, deep finish.

Its natural freshness and measured tannic structure make it approachable in its youth, while the volcanic minerality and careful maturation provide the balance needed for further bottle development over the coming years.

Production
The grapes come from selected districts around Castiglione di Sicilia on Etna’s northern side, at approximately 700 metres above sea level. The vines are planted in dark volcanic soils with alluvial and clay components and trained using spur pruning. The nearby Alcantara River contributes to a significant diurnal temperature range, helping preserve freshness and build aromatic complexity. After destemming, the grapes undergo temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation with skin maceration and daily pump-overs. Malolactic fermentation and nine months of ageing take place in medium-toast French Allier oak, followed by a further eight to ten months in stainless-steel tanks and a total maturation period of approximately 18 months before release.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C, allowing the wine to open gradually in the glass. Decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended when serving it young, particularly with a substantial meal. Its combination of freshness, mineral depth and refined structure pairs beautifully with succulent pork, roasted or grilled meats, game, rich pasta dishes and platters of mature cheeses.

Producer
Cottanera is a family-owned estate shaped by the Cambria family’s long experience and commitment to the distinctive terroir of Castiglione di Sicilia.
