First produced in 2000, it combines Cabernet’s depth and structure with the freshness and mineral precision of the estate’s south-eastern vineyards.

Tasting Notes
The 2021 Pietradonice is deep and intensely ruby-red in appearance. Its nose opens with ripe red fruit, layered with aromatic spices and subtle earthy nuances. On the palate, it is both powerful and surprisingly graceful, with concentrated fruit, lively acidity and firm yet refined tannins. The finish is long and persistent, revealing the wine’s complexity and balance.

Although approachable with decanting, this is a wine with considerable ageing potential. Its structure, acidity and tannic backbone should allow it to develop beautifully over the next decade or more when stored in suitable conditions.

Production
The grapes are grown in the area south-east of Montalcino, where the rich, stone-filled soils—reflected in the name Pietradonice—help give the wine its distinctive mineral character and depth. Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are carefully selected by hand both before and after destemming. Fermentation takes place naturally, without the addition of cultured yeast, in an open, temperature-controlled, cone-shaped vessel. Maceration and fermentation last approximately 18 days, followed by 18 months of maturation before release.

Food & Serving
Pietradonice is an excellent match for rich, flavourful dishes such as grilled or braised beef, roasted lamb, game, wild boar ragù and aged hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for 1–2 hours before serving, particularly while the wine is young, to soften the tannins and allow its fruit and spice character to unfold.

Producer
Founded in 1970, Casanova di Neri has become one of Montalcino’s most respected estates, known for combining meticulous vineyard work with expressive, age-worthy wines. While the estate is celebrated for its Brunello di Montalcino, Pietradonice reflects its willingness to explore the potential of Cabernet Sauvignon in the region. The first vintage was produced in 2000, drawing on decades of experience and the winery’s deep understanding of Montalcino’s diverse terroirs.
