Inspired by the classic Bordeaux style but shaped by its distinctive Tuscan setting, it combines generous fruit, lively spice and a full, finely structured palate. The wine has been produced at the historic Capezzana estate since 1979 and is recognised as one of the estate’s signature reds.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-red in appearance, Ghiaie della Furba opens with expressive aromas of wild berries and small red fruits, complemented by lively spice, subtle herbal nuances and a gently earthy character. On the palate, it is rich and full-bodied, with concentrated fruit, refreshing acidity and dense, enveloping tannins that become increasingly polished with time. The finish is long, savoury and spicy, revealing the wine’s depth and structure. Its balance and firm tannic backbone give it excellent ageing potential over the medium to long term.

Production
The vineyards lie in the Carmignano area, on the hills between Montalbano and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, at approximately 200 metres above sea level. South-west-facing vines benefit from warm, sunny days and cooling night-time temperatures, while the clay-schist soils and alluvial gravel near the Furba stream contribute structure and mineral character. The grapes are harvested by hand between September and October, then fermented in stainless-steel tanks with 13 days of temperature-controlled skin maceration. Malolactic fermentation and maturation take place in small oak barrels for 15 months, followed by a further 18 months of bottle ageing.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C after allowing the wine to breathe. Decanting for approximately one hour is recommended when opening it young, helping to soften the tannins and reveal its aromatic complexity. Its generous structure makes it an excellent match for grilled or roasted red meat, game, hearty Tuscan dishes and mature hard cheeses.

Producer
Capezzana is a historic estate in Carmignano, a celebrated wine-producing area in the heart of Tuscany.
