Made exclusively from the estate’s younger vineyards, it offers an approachable style marked by generous fruit, sweet tannins and impressive depth. The estate was founded in 1962 by Primo Pacenti and remains one of the historic producers of northern Montalcino.

Tasting Notes
Bright ruby-red in appearance, this Rosso opens with inviting aromas of ripe red cherries, wild berries and subtle floral notes, complemented by delicate spice and gentle oak. The palate is lively and well concentrated, balancing Sangiovese’s natural freshness with a fuller Montalcino character. Silky, sweet tannins provide excellent structure, while a savoury finish adds depth and length.

Enjoyable in its youth for its vibrant fruit and supple texture, the 2024 Rosso di Montalcino can also develop added savoury complexity over the next several years. It is best appreciated from release through approximately 2029, depending on storage conditions and personal preference.

Production
The wine is produced from Sangiovese grown in the Canalicchio di Sopra and Le Gode di Montosoli areas of Montalcino, where differences in elevation, exposure and soil contribute distinctive qualities to the grapes. The younger vineyards are selected for their generous fruit and naturally softer tannins. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at controlled temperatures, with daily remontage, followed by 15–20 days of skin maceration. The wine then matures for 12 months in Slavonian oak casks of 50 and 25 hectolitres, together with 750-litre French oak barrels.

Food & Serving
A versatile partner for pasta with ragù, hearty soups, roasted and grilled meats, and mature cheeses. Serve slightly cool, around 16–18°C, to highlight its freshness and fruit. Decanting is not essential when serving it young, although a brief 20–30 minute decant can help open the wine and soften its structure.

Producer
Azienda Agricola Canalicchio di Sopra was established in 1962 by Primo Pacenti in the northern part of Montalcino. Today, the family manages approximately 60 hectares, including 15 hectares of vineyards and two hectares of olive groves, and has continued its work across three generations. The estate combines modern cellar technology with respect for traditional methods and the natural environment. Its vineyards in Canalicchio di Sopra and Le Gode di Montosoli are vinified with care and blended to express the distinct character of the estate’s Sangiovese. Grapes from older vineyards are reserved for the estate’s Brunello di Montalcino and Riserva, while the younger vines form the basis of this polished Rosso.
