Rather than leaning on traditional Rioja categories or oak-led styling, it puts the village’s identity, polished structure and mineral freshness first; Vinous critic Joaquín Hidalgo awarded it 95 points.

Tasting Notes
The nose opens with cherry and red plum, joined by raspberry, violet and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, ripe fruit is balanced by lively freshness and silky tannins, with good depth and a long, composed finish.

Production
The wine is made primarily from Tempranillo grown in old parcels around Villabuena de Álava, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. The area’s calcareous soils and privileged setting are presented as central to the wine’s concentration, elegance and mineral character. Specific harvesting and vinification details are not provided.

Food & Serving
Enjoy it with lamb, veal, grilled poultry, charcuterie or mature cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C; a short spell in a decanter can help the wine open up, particularly when young.

Producer
Bideona’s approach centres on expressing the identity of Rioja Alavesa’s villages rather than defining wines by traditional Rioja ageing categories. Villabuena is its expression of the village’s distinctive origin, combining ripe fruit with refined structure and mineral tension.
