Sourced from the legendary Cerretalto vineyard, this Brunello represents the pinnacle of Casanova di Neri’s meticulous, quality-driven approach. The outstanding 2015 vintage delivered perfectly ripe, beautifully balanced Sangiovese, resulting in a wine that has already achieved 100 points from James Suckling and is destined for decades of evolution.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2015 Cerretalto shows a deep, vibrant ruby core with garnet reflections forming at the rim, signaling both concentration and the first hints of graceful development. The nose is strikingly pure and complex: intense aromas of violets and rose petals, ripe black cherries and black plums, layered with notes of sweet spices, balsamic nuances, graphite, licorice, and a subtle mineral smokiness that is a hallmark of this cru.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet supremely poised, with great density and silk-like texture. Rich black cherry and dark berry fruit are wrapped in sweet, fine-grained tannins, delivering both power and elegance. Flavors of cocoa, anise, tobacco, and balsamic tones build through the mid-palate, leading into an exceptionally long, sweetly savory finish that seems to go on indefinitely—very much in the classic Cerretalto style. The 2015 has very high aging potential; in magnum, it will continue to develop additional layers of complexity for 20–30+ years, while already being remarkably enjoyable with proper aeration.

Production
Cerretalto is a single-vineyard Brunello sourced from Casanova di Neri’s east-facing slopes near Montalcino, at around 350 meters above sea level. The soils here are poor, stony and rich in minerals, contributing to the wine’s tension, depth and distinctive graphite-mineral character. In 2015, the growing season enjoyed well-timed rainfall and mild average temperatures, allowing the grapes to achieve phenolic ripeness with exceptional balance between sugar and acidity. The Sangiovese (Sangiovese Grosso) grapes were hand-harvested in September and brought to the cellar using gravity, then fermented and macerated naturally in open, conical wooden vats for around 30–32 days. After fermentation, the wine was aged for about 30 months in French oak barrels (tonneaux of 500L), followed by a further 30 months of bottle aging before release, ensuring both structure and remarkable refinement.

Food & Serving
This Brunello is a superb partner for refined, richly flavored dishes such as bistecca alla Fiorentina, slow-braised lamb shank, ossobuco, or wild game like venison and hare. It also shines with aged hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano or mature Pecorino and with truffle dishes or mushroom-based risotti. Serve at 16–17 °C. For a magnum of this complexity and youth, open the bottle 2–3 hours in advance and give it ample time to breathe; decanting is strongly recommended to fully reveal its layered aromatics and silk-sweet tannins.

Producer
Founded in 1971 when Giovanni Neri acquired a large estate in Montalcino, Casanova di Neri has become one of the most respected and influential names in Brunello.
